Introduction

Drug Addiction

“The mentality and behaviour of drug addicts and alcoholics is wholly irrational until you understand that they are completely powerless over their addiction and unless they have structured help, they have no hope.”

Russell Brand, actor, comedian, author

What is Rehab?

Residential rehabilitation - rehab for short - describes a drug and/or alcohol treatment programme that is provided in a residential setting. Rehabs are usually abstinence-based and provide an intense programme of support and care aimed at people who have difficulty becoming drug free in the community.

You are a psychology student currently on an internship in a rehabilitation centre where drug-addicts and alcoholics come for support and addiction treatment. The centre has received subsidies for a new unit which needs to be organized. Your mission will consist in observing the patients in terms of addictions and profile (age, gender, lifestyle). You will then be able to bring some feedback to help the organization of the unit.
